This past weekend, we had two great reasons to celebrate. Andrew turned 14 and of course, it was Valentine's day:-) Andrew spent his actual birthday hanging out with friends and attending his first school dance. The dance was "boring" according to Andrew but hanging with friends is always a BLAST for him.
On Sunday, we trekked on over to Ft. Wayne for a birthday dinner and a little shopping at the mall. Andrew has finally outgrown the "kid" parties and that didn't disappoint us. We've outgrown them too:-) It was a nice change of pace to just do dinner and then let him pick out his gift at the mall:-)
I guess you could say Valentine's was overlooked but not really. It's about spending time with the ones you love, right?! Well, then we recieved the BEST gift ever and had the greatest day! There were no cards, no flowers, no candy even:-) But that's exactly what WE wanted. We have spoiled our children (and ourselves) for far TOO long and realize every holiday is not an excuse just to get a gift. And what' SO nice, our kids have finally caught on. It's NOT about material things but about spending time together as a family. Loving each other every day and not just on one holiday. It really IS better to give than receive :-) We did surprise the kids with a trip to the movies Saturday so that was nice. John and I cancelled our date so we could do that and we plan to head out to celebrate his birthday next weekend!!
We had a wonderful weekend!!! Looking forward to enjoying a few more relaxing ones before more wrestling tournaments and then soccer season!!!!! Boy, does time fly!
