DARE Graduation

Last Thursday, John, Alex and I headed to the school gym to watch Andrew graduate from the DARE program. We weren't really sure what to expect or not expect and didn't realize just how BIG a deal this event and the 16 preceding weeks really were/are. The program was wonderful. Our friend ( and Andrew's football buddy:-), Officer Light, led the program. He did an absolutely AMAZING job!!! You could tell he took the time to get to know each and everyone of his students and that he truly does have a gift. The kids LOVE him as he does them. The most moving part of the night had to be the kids who read their essays to the entire gym. John cried. I cried. It was so sad to realize (or get out of my bubble for a moment) that their are kids out there faced with drugs, alcohol and violence on a daily basis. I think sometimes we take for granted just how "easy" life can be sometimes. There truly are people, children, hurting right here in our own backyard. That night made me realize just how fast Andrew is growing up! Watching the slideshow of all the students made me flash forward 6 years to High School Graduation!!! Yikes!!! It's only 6 years away. Andrew's off to middle school next year!!! These past 12 years have FLOWN by and have been absolutely amazing. Andrew is truly a gift!!! He may not think his parents are "too bright" but we truly are enjoying having him as our son:-)
