Oh, so where should I begin. We went to bed tired and smelling like smoke Friday night. Before hitting the pillow, John and I talked briefly about our possible roadtrip the next day. We weren't sure where we would go or what we were going to do but had an idea we would head towards Chicago if we went.
Saturday, we woke up groggy (at least I did) and moved around slow. John worked on cleaning the downstairs while I busily picked out clothes for the kids. John said to throw together a bag in case it was late and we didn't want to return until Sunday. I was like, "Wow, sounds good to me". So, around 11am we hit the road and headed for the Windy City. We didn't know if we wanted to got the aquarium or a museum or even on to Gurnee Mills. We stopped to eat lunch in Valpo @ Red Robin, one of the kids' favorites. I must say, I think the Ft. Wayne one is much better.
After lunch, we set out on our journey again only to get stuck in Chicago traffic.......YUK!!! I was driving and it was moving sooooooo SLOW!! We decided not to go into Downtown or even to Lake Shore Drive and headed towards Gurnee Mills. We had heard others talk about it and knew there was a Rain Forest Cafe there so that was our destination, I guess. Until the kids saw roller coasters as we approached our exit off of 94. Yep, there was 6 Flags right there along the interstate. Needless to say, that's where they wanted to go. We did drive over to Gurnee Mills but it was just another mall. Nothing overly exciting and of course, John and I wanted to hit a few coasters too:-) We knew that if we were gonna go to 6 Flags, then we needed to stay the night. We drove around checking hotels/prices and places that would fit our crew. Thankfully, we found a nice little hotel right across the street from Great America.
We ended up heading to Great America around 5pm and stayed well until after they closed. We were probably there until a little after 10. We came back to the hotel and went swimming and finally, ate dinner around 11:30pm. I am not kidding you, the kids were full steam ahead ALL day. Ari never even napped and finally crashed around 11. Chicago is an hour behind so really we were eating dinner on Sunday morning, LOL!!!
The kids had a blast at the park. Andrew and Alex did some coasters and Alijah, Aden, and Ashton did quite a few little kid rides. Ari even rode rides. They had a great WIGGLES play area and a Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine ride. All the kids had a blast. Unfortunately, I never got on a single ride:-( John beat me at the chance to ride with Alex on the Superman Coaster.
Since, I have so many pictures I will make a link here 6 Flags Photos so that you can see all the pictures we took.
We had a really GREAT time!! Nothing like a Great Road Trip!!! Oh yeah, and the kids were exceptionally well behaved so we couldn't have asked for a better time:-)
Oh yeah, the new SPYgirl show was S.O.D.U.M.B!!! John and I thought it was the worst show we have ever seen when compared to Cedar Pt, Kings Island, Disney or Sea World. Very Cheesy!!!
