Michael Jackson - Beat It

WOW! The King of Pop died a year ago today! I know! I know! You're probably thinking why would I devote a post to Michael Jackson. Well here, let me tell ya:) Michael Jackson was my "Beatles" per se. He defined the 80's. Heck, he defined Pop music to this day. For me, listening to Michael Jackson's music takes me back to 4th grade! Yep, Mr. Hurd's class. We ALWAYS hoped for inside recess so we could go to the gym and practice our "moves" to Beat It and Thriller. We wanted to be like Mike and that had nothing to do with cereal or basketball;) I had a friend named Angie who knew ALL the moves. She would "lead" us during recess and we hoped ( I tried) to learn the moves! I do have two left feet so I never did conquer the Thriller dance but you know what I mean?! I remember the very first time I saw with my own two eyes the THRILLER album. I was at my mom's sister's and she pulled out the cover. There he was...leaning back on his elbow. White suit...black shirt....Thriller scribbled across the cover. It was like witnessing a miracle to a 1o year old girl! I was in Heaven!! As I got older, I still liked MJ. I remember in High School we would wait after The Fresh Prince for a new Michael Jackson video to premiere. Oh weren't those the days!! Videos premiering on primetime TV. Remember BAD? Or how about Black and White? I remember sitting there being amazed at the technology of that video and how ALL the faces changed so quickly. As I got older, Michael Jackson's reputation took quite a hit. But it didn't stop me from liking his music. How about "You are not alone". I remember that song playing the day I found out I was pregnant with my first son. I guess you could say Michael Jackson's music was a timeline of my life.
Last week, I had the privilege of seeing "This Is It". I say privilege because I know I will never see him in concert and this is the closest I will ever come. The man was an amazing performer/entertainer. At 50, he still had the moves from back in the 1980's. I know, so this post may seem a bit pathetic but  to me it's my history. Maybe Michael was called home so early because he had already left his legacy. Maybe he's teaching the angels the moonwalk:) We'll never know who Michael Jackson really is/was but I believe him when I heard a past interview and he said he believes his purpose was to sing/entertain the world:)
